Oops, I got glutened!

I had a beautiful day with my hubby today.  We went to Minnehaha Falls in Minneapolis.  Gorgeous place if you get the chance to see it.  I'm so thankful for the beautiful places to discover close to home so that I don't have to travel far to have a good refreshing break from life.  The expense of vacation and travelling is crazy these days.

But I made a mistake in thinking I could eat out and stay low carb and gluten free I guess.  *Sigh* this is getting to seem an impossible task.  I figured a grilled chicken salad at McDonald's on the way home was safe.  But after eating it, I got out my itouch and looked up online the nutrition info and discovered I had about 21 g. carbs in that salad.  I also discovered that the chicken breast is marinated in something, which must have had wheat in it cuz I am having the "wheat nose" tonight--stuffy nose that I get when I eat wheat.  I was planning on bringing my own food and the park would have been so lovely for a picnic.  So that was one mistake I made.  Next time. My mother in law used to always say, "You live and you learn".  She was right.

But I sure hope I can find a restaurant that is both low carb friendly and wheat free friendly.  I don't know of any around me as of yet.

But we had a wonderful day in spite of it, and hopefully the little bit of wheat I seem to have picked up won't affect me too long?  Hopefully?

  1. Great pictures!! Looks like a beautiful place we would enjoy visiting too!! Alas we are just too far away. :-)

I tried leaving you a comment on your wheat free experiment post the other day but Google wouldn't let me sign in (just love technology!). It appears that we suffer most of the same frustrating health maladies in life though I confess you are doing much better to control yours than I am at this point.

I enjoy my time browsing your blog and being inspired by your recipes! Thanks for sharing your life!

  2. Thank you for your post! Yes, I know google can be frustrating. :p

I am learning the more I do this wheat free thing, that I'm finding it less hard actually (accept when I want to eat out), and seeing more results. This week my energy level has increased. I have been able to breeze through my day without a nap in the afternoon! Something unheard of for me without crashing. I'm hoping it continues. We'll see. I'm finding it's definitely worth the work of learning to do this!! :)

  3. Oh Ginny, those are beautiful photos. It looks like you have some idyllic spots near you. How peaceful it all looks. So lovely to see the pic of you and your hubby. You both look happy and relaxed. I hope you get over the nose thing quickly. Good to hear you have lots of energy. I agree eating out is a mine field and especially for Ian who has to be more careful as he is actually quite intolerant to gluten (go figure), whereas I don't seem to be.

  4. What a gorgeous place! Those waterfalls are so impressive! I also try to avoid wheat, I love millet, quinoa and amaranth. I'm following you from Rome!

  5. There are some beautiful spots here in Minnesota! I'm so glad you don't have the wheat problem Jennifer. I feel for your husband. I'm finding I'm MUCH more sensitive than I ever thought.

  6. Ciccia, I can't have any of those either! Raise my blood sugar too much. So I have so few alternatives. Wow! You're from Rome? I bet there are some gorgeous places there too!
